His Excellency the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco da Costa Monteiro, met with His Excellency Ambassador Okto Dorinus Manik of the Republic of Indonesia to discuss current developments in the petroleum and mining sectors, and to explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation between Timor-Leste and Indonesia.

Minister Monteiro provided an update on the Greater Sunrise development, including the findings of the independent Concept Select Study conducted by Wood Group. His Excellency highlighted that all development options assessed, Timor-Leste LNG (TLNG), Darwin LNG, Ichthys LNG, and a new Australia LNG facility, were technically feasible. However, the study concluded that TLNG is the most commercially viable and economically advantageous option, both for the State and for the Sunrise Joint Venture.

The Minister also provided a snapshot of ongoing efforts in the mining sector, with the Governmentโ€™s intention to advance exploration and development in a manner that ensures environmental responsibility and delivers tangible benefits to local communities. His Excellency welcomed further dialogue with Indonesia on opportunities for collaboration and exchange of expertise.
