His Excellency Francisco da Costa Monteiro, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Timor-Leste, received His Excellency Tetsuya Kimura, Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, for a courtesy meeting in Dili. Ambassador Kimura was accompanied by Ms. Kana Murozono, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Japan.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss areas of bilateral energy cooperation and exchange views ahead of Minister Monteiro’s upcoming visit to Tokyo later this month, where His Excellency will participate in the LNG Producer–Consumer Conference 2025, co-hosted by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the International Energy Agency (IEA).
Minister Monteiro highlighted Timor-Leste’s longstanding relationship with Japan, noting the country’s role as a reliable and valued buyer of Timor Sea natural gas in past projects.
The Ambassador expressed Japan’s continued interest in collaborating with Timor-Leste in the energy sector and welcomed the upcoming visit as a valuable step toward strengthening dialogue and commercial engagement between the two countries.
